Another post about investing in water, via a popular new approach called an exchange-traded fund or ETF.
PowerShares Water Resources Portfolio (PHO) is an ETF launched in 2005 that has over $2 billion in assets. It tracks the Palisades Water Index, a basket of companies that focus on the provision of potable water, the treatment of water and the technology and services that are directly related to water consumption, according to Invesco PowerShares.
The ETF is up about 11% over the past year and has outperformed the broader market amid the commodities rally. Its 35 holdings include Valmont Industries, Tetra Tech and Danaher Corp.
Other water ETFs include PowerShares Global Water (PIO), Claymore S&P Global Water (CGW) and First Trust ISE Water (FIW).
